Historic rail bridge restored in original colours
A well-known landmark railway bridge has been replaced but in its original colours.
The Hanson’s Mild Ale bridge which crosses Birmingham New Road, Tipton, was removed as part of work to extend the West Midlands Metro route.
It was replaced with a new structure which also includes a cycleway. A sign-writer was employed to decorate it in its original paint scheme.
The Wednesbury to Brierley Hill extension, which largely follows an existing disused rail corridor, will add nine stops to the West Midlands Metro network.
The bridge was the final structure to be installed in the first phase of the project.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, described the bridge as a "much-loved local landmark".
He added: "We always look for opportunities to honour the region’s cultural history while delivering new modern infrastructure to better connect our communities.”
