Hollywood star Dev Patel caught up in Adelaide stabbing

British film star Dev Patel wasn’t acting when he stepped in to break up a knife fight in Adelaide’s CBD.

The Slumdog Millionaire star was caught on camera after reportedly rushing to the rescue on Monday night.

According to South Australian police, a man and woman had been seen arguing on Gouger Street at around 8.45pm before the altercation escalated inside a nearby service station.

While witnesses tried to stop the action, the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the chest.

Patel’s representatives have since confirmed to Seven News the actor and his friends were at the scene.

“Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight,” his team told Seven News.

“The group was thankfully successful in doing so, and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”

A 32-year-old man from Glengowrie was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

His injuries are not considered life threatening.

A 34-year-old woman from Park Holme was arrested and later charged with aggravated assault causing harm.

Police say the pair are known to each other and that it wasn’t a random attack.

'No heroes'

Despite Patel throwing himself into the line of fire, his representatives insist that there were “no heroes” that night.

They say the incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalised members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (solely because Dev, as a famous person, was involved) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large,” they said.
