Hot Air Balloon Regatta set for London rescheduled
The capital will have to wait a little longer for its annual skyline bonanza after the Lord Mayor's Hot Air Balloon Regatta was postponed due to poor weather.
Originally slated for this Sunday, the charity event has been rescheduled to July 21, with organisers keeping July 28 in reserve as a backup date.
The decision comes after forecasters predicted heavy downpours, which would have put a dampener on proceedings.
The colourful spectacle, which sees around 50 balloons take to the skies above London, has become a much-anticipated fixture in the city's summer calendar.
It's not just about the visuals, though - the event has a loftier purpose, raising both awareness and funds for the Lord Mayor's Appeal.
Since its inception in 2015, the regatta has floated more than £250,000 into the charity's coffers. Organisers are hoping this year's event will see that figure continue to rise.
The Lord Mayor's Hot Air Balloon Regatta has faced a string of setbacks in recent years.
The 2020 and 2021 events were grounded due to the Coronavirus pandemic, while unpredictable British weather forced the cancellation of both the 2022 and 2023 editions.
