Hucknall: 1960s-built primary school to be demolished and replaced
A Nottinghamshire primary school in need of renovation is to be demolished and rebuilt.
Broomhill Junior School, in Hucknall, is to be replaced as part of the Department for Education's (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme (SRP).
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said the 1960s-built school had been included in the scheme because of its deteriorating state.
A planning application has been lodged with Ashfield District Council.
The school, run by Nottinghamshire County Council, educates pupils aged seven to 11.
Documents submitted by construction company Tilbury Douglas said the 272-pupil school would be at full capacity by September.
According to the plans, the new two-storey school will have more play space and outdoor teaching areas.
A dedicated special educational needs (SEN) corridor will also be provided on the ground floor, with the number of SEN pupils set to rise from 58 to 70.
The LDRS said it had contacted the school for comment.
