The news around the COVID-19 outbreak is constantly changing, but information about food safety and how to keep yourself healthy is crucial right now. Here is a comprehensive list on the foods you should be stocking up on during this period of social distancing, as well as information about your local grocery stores’ changing hours, an explanation of “no-contact delivery,” and a guide on how to help your community and its businesses throughout closures.

Instacart has seen an influx in demand as people stay at home to practice social distancing. The service, which hires people to grocery shop and deliver orders, is now supplying employees with health and safety kits that they can use on their shopping trips.

Last week, Instacart announced that it was looking to hire 300,000 more shoppers to keep up with the current demand. In the news release, Instacart said they have more shoppers on their platform than ever before due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

As an effort to keep those who are fulfilling grocery orders safe, Instacart is offering safety kits that include face masks, hand sanitizer, and a thermometer. The kits can be ordered free of charge by filling out this form.

Along with the safety kits for shoppers, Instacart is now offering a "leave at my door" delivery option which is now the default delivery setting on all orders. This aims to limit the amount of person-to-person contact that happens during each grocery delivery. For alcohol delivery, it can still be contactless as its no longer required to get a signature at the door.

In addition to these steps, Instacart is offering up to 14 days of paid sick leave to employees who test positive for coronavirus or are placed in a mandatory quarantine by a health official. This sick leave policy is in effect through May 8.

Instacart is staying up-to-date with the ongoing outbreak and the CDC's recommendations. You can read about how their grocery delivery service is responding here.
