The Internet Is Fighting Over The 'Scrambled Pancakes' Trend: 'It's An Abomination'

TikTok has brought us as many questionable recipes as it has genius cooking hacks. Don't even get me started on the whole chamoy pickle kit conversation. However, the latest trend circulating TikTok has the internet split down the middle.

Creator @archivedchef took to social media in June to share her recipe for "scrambled pancakes," while informing followers that we've all been making pancakes "wrong" our "whole lives."

"Did you know you’re supposed to scramble them just like you would scramble eggs?" she asked her audience of 18.7 million viewers. "And it’s so much easier this way. You don’t have to worry about getting the perfect circle."

The comment section blew up with over 12,000 competing opinions. Critics called the creation "an abomination," "blasphemous," and a "crime," while others argued that the technique was "genius" and "so appealing."

"I would never disrespect pancakes in that way," one person wrote in the comment section. However, a fan of the scrambled pancakes added, "this is life changing."

"I'm X gen and never needed therapy until I watched this video," wrote another scrambled pancake hater.

While there were plenty of pro-scrambled pancake users in the comments, the creator herself offered up a big sike at the end of her video.

"Like tell me that does not look good? Like. Do not try this. And it was not good," the @archivedchef added in the last few seconds of her video. "And whoever told me to try it and said it was good, may your toes always find their way to the corners of your table."

Following the internet craze, the TikToker spoke with Fox News on what inspired the idea.

"I thought it would be a fun idea for a video because of all the reactions it might receive, some positive, and some not so much," she told the outlet. "The idea of scrambling pancakes was so out-of-the-box that I knew it would be fun to try and entertaining for my followers."

This isn't the first TikTok trend to stun the internet, though. Remember when we found out drumstick frozen treats don't melt? Or when we were all arguing over bean soup? It's just par for the course.

Turns out, scrambled pancakes aren't even a new thing—or originally from the social media platform at all. The New York Port reports that they've been around since the mid-19th century in Austria, where they're called Kaiserschmarrn (or "imperial mess"). It's actually a traditional dessert that's enjoyed in Germany too.

The delicacy was reportedly created by a farmer who whipped up the recipe for Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife when they unexpectedly showed up at his door. At a loss for what to serve, he deconstructed the pancake and topped it with sugar and marmalade for what, apparently, was a hit.
