Residents of north-west Skye say the potholes are so bad on their roads there is barely any road surface left.

Minginish peninsula's community council has called on Highland Council to make urgent improvements.

Chairman Kenny Bain told BBC Naidheachdan: "It's a total shambles. I wish that wasn't true, but it is - we are the forgotten peninsula."

Calum Munro, a local Highland councillor, said Minginish was among parts of the island in need of road repairs and added that it had not be forgotten.

Mr Bain said: "Recently I went on a run round the north end of Skye and I have seen some really nice repairs done there.

"I am not saying their roads are perfect - they're not - but we really don't have a road here at all."

Earlier this month, Highland Council said it planned to invest up to £60m in its roads.

The local authority has also been trialling a new technology called thermal road repairs.

Mr Munro said the current financial environment added to the challenges Highland Council faced in tackling potholes.

He said: "We haven’t forgotten about anyone at all, we will get to these roads at some point, but everyone understands that money is the key factor, and if the money isn’t there that means we just can’t do as much."
