Jennifer Lopez Says Ayo Edebiri Is Singing a Different Tune About Her Talent: ‘She Loved My Performance’ on SNL
Jennifer Lopez and Ayo Edebiri appear to have officially buried the hatchet in the wake of podcast-gate.
Speaking to TVLine’s sister pub Variety, Lopez revealed that the Bear breakout — who took heat for calling JLo’s career “one long scam” in a podcast interview that resurfaced just days ahead of their joint appearance on Saturday Night Live — says a “mortified and very sweet” Edebiri “came to my [SNL] dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things.

“She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform,” Lopez added. “She was just like, ‘I’m so f—ing sorry, it was so awful of me.’”
For her part, Lopez insists she took Edebiri’s harsh podcast comments in stride. “I’ve heard similar things said about me throughout my career,” she shrugged, “so it really didn’t affect me.”
Edebiri cheekily addressed the backlash during her Feb. 3 SNL hosting stint (watch the skit here), as well as on Instagram last week. The latter remark came via SNL cast member Bowen Yang’s Instagram page, where he posted a segment from his and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast. In the clip, SNL vet Tina Fey uses the recurring segment “I Don’t Think So, Honey!” — in which Yang, Rogers or their guests rant about a cultural pet peeve for one minute — to tell Yang that he’s officially too famous to be giving his actual opinions about movies on his podcast.
“Are you having a problem with Saltburn? Quiet luxury. Keep it to yourself,” Fey urged. “Because what are you going to do when [Saltburn director] Emerald Fennell calls you about her next project where you play Carey Mulligan’s coworker in the bridal section of Harrods, and then Act 3 takes a sexually violent turn, and you have to pretend to be surprised by that turn?… Learn from my mistakes, learn from Ayo. Podcasts are forever. Authenticity is dangerous and expensive.”
“LEARN FROM ME,” Edebiri agreed in a comment underneath the clip, which was met with everything from fire emojis to comments like “im screaming” in replies from other users.
