“Jeopardy! ”Contestant Says His Grandmother's Restaurant Inspired Jimmy Buffett’s Song ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise’

Contestant Ferdinand Percentie claimed the beloved singer visited his grandmother's restaurant in the Bahamas

Every family has fun tales passed down from generation to generation, but this Jeopardy! contestant may have everyone beat.

On the April 29 episode of the long-running quiz show, competitor Ferdinand Percentie told host Ken Jennings that his grandmother’s dish inspired the late Jimmy Buffett’s hit song, “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

“My family comes from a small island in the Bahamas called Harbor Island, and according to family lore, Jimmy Buffett came to the hotel-restaurant my grandma founded and had a cheeseburger there,” he revealed. “And that was his inspiration to write ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise.’”

Jennings got a kick out of the story, saying the fun fact on his note card was "maybe my favorite sentence I've ever seen in my life."

“Your grandma’s cheeseburgers were so good that he wrote a hit song about them? That is amazing,” he added at the end.

Percentie, a day trader from Altamonte Springs, Florida, did not move on in the competition, but played a great game. He was in the lead but got the final Jeopardy! question wrong and ended up in second place with $13,799.

Many restaurants have claimed to serve that inspirational cheeseburger. A representative for Buffett's estate did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Buffett, who died in September at the age of 76, was also known for his hit song, “Margaritaville.” He encouraged fans, known as Parrotheads, to celebrate a more laid back lifestyle with his music.

"What's most important is to please the Parrotheads, because there's more to the music than just the music," he told Entertainment Weekly in 1995. "It's become a lifestyle. I wish I could take credit, but it's fan-generated."

The embrace of this relaxed, beach bum attitude saw great success throughout the singer’s life with a chain of restaurants, resorts, tons of merchandise and even a Broadway musical.

While Buffett said he stopped drinking margaritas in 2018, the singer’s businesses have been serving up the frozen cocktail for years. In an August 2018 issue, PEOPLE ran his official recipe from Carlo Sernaglia and Julia Turshen's Margaritaville cookbook.

The cocktail is simple and classic, containing tequila (of course!), lime, water, triple sec and sugar.
