Jerry Seinfeld crashes “SNL” to roast “Unfrosted” press tour — and warn Ryan Gosling about doing 'too much press'

"If you’re struggling with press, you’re not alone."

When it comes to embarking on a press tour, Jerry Seinfeld sees himself as a cautionary tale.

The 70-year-old comedian made this clear with his surprise return to Saturday Night Live, where he was introduced by Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost as "a man who did too much press." Earning this title within seconds, Seinfeld was hilariously disoriented during his brief cameo.

“Where am I, exactly?” he asked immediately, prompting Jost to remind him of the show's title. Even that wasn’t enough though, with Seinfeld then asking, “Is this a podcast?”

While the Seinfeld star should be familiar with Studio 8H — he hosted SNL twice in the ‘90s and has made several cameos since — there is a reason behind his confusion. The comedian has spent the past few weeks giving interviews on talk shows, podcasts, and speaking to various outlets in the leadup to his first live-action movie, Unfrosted.

Clearly, it’s become too much to keep track of, but as Seinfeld explains to Jost, there’s no way to tell that you’re doing “excessive press" until it's too late.

“That’s the thing, you don’t know,” he explained. “I mean, until someone who cares about you shows you a video package and you see yourself with people with these names — Hoda, Maraca, Chanel, Vlad.”

While Seinfeld acknowledged that he "can’t undo all the press" he’s done, he explained that his SNL appearance is an opportunity to save other celebrities from going down the same terrible path.

“I wanna help other people. If you’re struggling with press, you’re not alone,” Seinfeld said, speaking directly to the camera and adding, “I’m talking to you Ryan Gosling.”

Addressing the Barbie star, who has lately been making the rounds for The Fall Guy, Seinfeld continued: "When I started doing press for Unfrosted, I was like you: funny, good looking. Now look at me. You think this is how I wanted to spend my 26th birthday? But you can get clean."

Unfortunately, Seinfeld’s breakthrough moment was short lived: before he could finish his plea to Gosling, his ringtone went off, indicating yet another phone interview.

"I think we’ve lost him,” Jost told the crowd, as Seinfeld explained the plot of his Pop-Tart-based movie to an unseen interviewer.

Outside of trolling Hugh Grant and daring Kellogs to sue the movie, the Unfrosted press tour yielded a few controversial comments from the comedian, including his argument that the “extreme left” is to blame for the lack of good comedy in modern sitcoms.
