Joanna Gaines Posts a Sweet Birthday Tribute for Chip Including a Personalized Song Featuring Son Crew
The 'Fixer Upper' star, who shares five kids with wife Joanna Gaines, turned 49 on Tuesday
The Magnolia family is celebrating one of their own.
Chip Gaines turned 49 on Tuesday and to celebrate, Joanna Gaines shared a hilarious autotune-heavy song that “the team made” for her husband’s birthday.
Set to a montage of photos of Chip with Joanna and funny clips of the home renovator at work, the song discusses the Fixer Upper star’s unique style choices — “Backwards hat bandana rang / tube socks over the calf” — and his farm lifestyle — “He loves the chicks, the kind that lay an egg.”
The song even included a brief appearance by Crew, the youngest son of Chip and Joanna, who made a bird sound in the background after the “chicks” lyric.
“Sweet Crew even chimes in 🐥🐥,” Joanna, 45, wrote in the post’s caption, confirming her son’s involvement in the satirical song.
The lyrics also mention Chip’s big chop that took place in 2021 as someone sings, “On any given day he might just shave his head.”
Joanna, too, gets a special shoutout. “Livin’ that farm life, beautiful wife, walking around with a pocket knife,” the song continued before addressing Chip’s soon-approaching semi-centennial birthday.
“He might be getting older but we know he’ll never lose,” a member of the Magnolia team sang. “Still in love with 16, but don’t worry, it’s fine, you’re still young, you’re only 49.”
His wife of 20 years added a note in the caption, too. “Happy birthday @chipgaines, you really are one of a kind 🤍.”
There has been a lot to celebrate in the Gaines home in the last few months. This has included Chip and Joanna celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary in May, Chip’s birthday and their joint lifestyle brand, Magnolia, celebrating its 20th anniversary, too.
Joanna posted a tribute on Instagram commemorating the brand’s anniversary in October as she shared, “Back in 2003, we could have never dreamed of any of this. Grateful for the wonderful memories, the mistakes and mishaps and all the miracles along the way,” her caption continued. “Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. ❤️.”
She also shared some epic photos from the party she and Chip threw to celebrate the company’s birthday, which included an impressive fireworks display and some live performances.

They reflected further on the impressive milestone in an interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna last week, during which Joanna admitted that their original idea was “something much simpler” than what the brand has evolved into. It now encompasses Waco, Texas shopping destination Magnolia Market, their hit HGTV series Fixer Upper, their own TV network, a podcast, lines at Target and even a restaurant.
At the beginning of November, they launched yet another new project: opening a hotel they’d restored in their Texas hometown.
Thinking back on their successes, Chip said, “It’s just like, ‘Wow, man — a lot happened.’ And you really didn’t get time to stop and really smell the roses while it was occurring. But now, for whatever reason, we really feel like we’re in just a really nice place.”
At the start, “the idea that what was in our hearts as a dream was just a small little shop, doing some renovations in town,” Joanna said.
The key to keeping the business — and their relationship — alive over the two decades, she added, is “partnership” as well as an awareness of their skills.
“That understanding of Chip’s strengths, what lane that he stays in, my strengths, my weaknesses and what lanes I stay in.”

Chip also threw in a joke as he said he predicted what Joanna would say she is most proud of would “be something about money.”
His wife replied, “You’re an idiot.”
