ZACH CRIZER: Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, if the Mets ever play baseball again, they are going to be debuting for their coming back in Detroit, which is where both of them have pitched before. Famously, they were teammates. This has brought me to one of my favorite baseball things, which is the number of great pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander have played with. So this is a very simple game. I have a list of, literally, pitchers who have won the Cy Young, and I'm going to ask you if they have ever played with either pitcher. First one, Zack Greinke?
HANNAH KEYSER: Yes?
ZACH CRIZER: Yes, he played on the Houston Astros with Verlander.
HANNAH KEYSER: Oh, right. OK.
ZACH CRIZER: Roger Clemens?
HANNAH KEYSER: No?
ZACH CRIZER: He did not.
HANNAH KEYSER: OK.
ZACH CRIZER: Randy Johnson?
HANNAH KEYSER: No.
ZACH CRIZER: He did. He played with Max Scherzer on the Diamondbacks in the very early part of Max Scherzer's career.
HANNAH KEYSER: When was Max Scherzer on the Diamondbacks?
ZACH CRIZER: He started with the Diamondbacks.
HANNAH KEYSER: Oh, yeah.
ZACH CRIZER: Yeah. David Price?
HANNAH KEYSER: Yes.
ZACH CRIZER: Yes, he played with both of them on the Tigers. Rick Porcello? The most surprising part of this for a lot of people is that Rick Porcello won a Cy Young, but that really did happen.
HANNAH KEYSER: No?
ZACH CRIZER: He did. He also played with both of them on the Tigers.
HANNAH KEYSER: Oh.
ZACH CRIZER: Robbie Ray?
HANNAH KEYSER: No.
ZACH CRIZER: He also played with both of them on the Tigers. All of the pitchers I just said were on the same team at the same time. Jake Arrieta?
HANNAH KEYSER: Yes.
ZACH CRIZER: No, he did not play with either of them. Clayton Kershaw?
HANNAH KEYSER: Yes.
ZACH CRIZER: Yes, played with Max. Last one, Bartolo Colon? Famously played for a lot of teams.
HANNAH KEYSER: Famously played for a lot of teams. I'm going to say yes because that would be more fun, but I'm worried that's not true. Yes.
ZACH CRIZER: He did not play with either of them. No, but just missed.
HANNAH KEYSER: But it would have been more fun if he had.
ZACH CRIZER: The total is 10 Cy Young winners that Verlander and Scherzer have crossed paths with.
