‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ Is Ending—But Why?

After nearly 15 years of being on-air, and with 20 seasons of content under their belts, the Kardashians are finally wrapping Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In a social media announcement on September 8th, Kim Kardashian West, Kris Jenner, and other members of the Kardashian-Jenner family made the announcement that the E! reality TV show will be airing its final season early next year.

"It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians," Kardashian West wrote on the 8th. "After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years—through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children. We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way."

The Kardashians thanked the "thousands of individuals and businesses" who took part in the series, and "Ryan Seacrest for believing in us."

"Without Keeping Up with The Kardashians," Kardashian West continued in her statement, "I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has watched and supported me and my family these past 14 incredible years. This show made us who we are and I will be forever in debt to everyone who played a role in shaping our careers and changing our lives forever."

So, why did the Kardashian-Jenners decide to end here? There's certainly not a lack of drama to tune into or family ties to keep up with.

According to Variety, the family signed a three-year extension deal with E! in 2017 that took them through 2020, thus giving them an out if they wanted. Plus, a source told Entertainment Tonight that there's no huge dramatic reason for the show's demise. The family simply realized it was getting difficult to shoot with so many separate lives going on in comparison to when they all lived under one roof.

"The kids who started the show now have their own kids and it’s getting very hard to film all together or get enough footage separately," the source said, adding, "The family wanted time to focus more on their family and future projects and the show is a major job that takes up a lot of time."

However, some fans have seen the writing on the wall for months, even years, before this announcement. Kim and Kanye West's alleged marital issues, Kourtney Kardashian's break from the show earlier this summer, and the tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship between Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson have made fans speculate that the family may need a rest from the public eye.

But just because the show is going away doesn't mean the Kardashians will blur into obscurity. The Kardashian-Jenner sisters have made names for themselves outside of Keeping Up doing makeup, skincare, shapewear, and social media. Kim Kardashian West recently trademarked the term KKW Home, and momager Kris Jenner has a way of weaving herself into fame, fortune, and juicy drama.

Some think Kris could be destined for Bravo's Real Housewives because of her wont to eat, breathe, and live scandal.

All good things must come to an end. We'll get our final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and then it will be up to us to keep up on our own time. Luckily, thanks to social media, that probably won't be very difficult.
