Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Admit They 'Squabble' and Share One Early Source of Conflict in Their Marriage
The 'Live with Kelly and Mark' co-hosts and real-life couple reflected on the beginning of their marriage during Tuesday's broadcast
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are just like the rest of us!
The Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts shared during Tuesday's broadcast that they would argue about how they would go about pumping gas in their car early in their relationship.
"What do you mean you can't pump your own gas? I want to pump my own gas! You can't do that in New Jersey. We actually had a little squabble over that early on in the relationship," said Consuelos, 52.
Ripa, 53, validated his story by responding, "Yes. Yeah. You tried to get out and pump your own gas, and I was like, 'You can't do that here.' "
Consuelos shared that he thought the situation was "ridiculous."
Ripa responded by sharing her own story about renting a car at a dealership.
"Also, if you'll recall, we had rented — and this is why Mark doesn't pay attention to details. When we went to the rental company to pick up the car, it was an iridescent purple car that sometimes looked green, sometimes looked yellow, sometimes looked purple," she said. "Do you know what I'm talking about? So Mark didn't think that was a big deal.. And I was like, 'We can't go home in this car. My parents will think something happened to us!' "
The television personalities married in 1996 and share sons Michael, 26, and Joaquin, 20, and daughter Lola, 22. The two met on the set of All My Children and began sharing the screen on Live! in April after Ryan Seacrest departed the show.
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, Ripa referred to her husband joining the show as the "best-case scenario."
"It's great for me because he's my favorite person to be around, so spending time with him every day here is kind of the best-case scenario for me. Even the getting ready part — we'll take a car in together or walk here, which will be so nice," she said.
"And it's not like we'll be pre-planning what to say, everything we say during host chat is off the cuff," Ripa continued. "But we'll just have that time together that'll be so nice."
