Kenny G is expressing himself through a new medium this year.

The Grammy winner, 67, is set to publish his long-awaited memoir, Life in the Key of G, this fall, per a statement shared with PEOPLE from Blackstone Publishing.

The memoir, written with Philip Lerman, tells of Kenny G’s rise to stardom: from his beginnings as a kid “hassled for his lunch money” in Seattle to becoming the renowned saxophonist fans know him as today.

“I’ve always preferred to let my music do the talking for me; it’s my way of expressing what’s in my heart,” the musician said in a statement. “But I thought people might want to know what’s inside the music, and where it comes from. And there’s a lot about how I went from Kenneth Gorelick to Kenny G that I’ve never talked about before.”

Kenny G has seen many accolades throughout his decades-long career, and has won awards including a Grammy, an American Music Award, two Soul Train Music Awards and two NAACP Awards. With over 75 million records sold, including hits Duotones (1986), Silhouette (1988) and Breathless (1992), he is recognized as the best-selling instrumentalist of all time.

“It’s been exactly 50 years since my first professional gig (and that blows my mind because I feel like I’m just getting started); but it seemed like a good time to share those stories with the wonderful people who’ve supported me all these years,” Kenny G added.

The instrumentalist opened up to PEOPLE in 2022 about his career, and how after even five decades in the business, he still has more to give.

"I've been around a long time, so when people like Kanye and The Weeknd are asking me to play on their records, yeah, I do feel like it's a resurgence in my career right now," the musician said, at the time. "I'm not trying to sound egotistical, but I've always thought that when you have something of great quality, you become timeless."
