Killer Mike Addresses His Grammys Arrest Again in New Song 'Humble Me'

“Got sent to the slammer, bruh, treat me like an animal,” the Grammy winner raps on his new single

Killer Mike still has a lot to say about his 2024 Grammys arrest.

The Atlanta rapper, 49, released a new single called “Humble Me” on Sunday, June 30, just moments after he addressed his recent run-in with the law during his BET Awards acceptance speech for album of the year.

The Grammy winner used part of his two-and-a-half-minute track — and accompanying black-and-white visual — to speak more about the shocking arrest, which occurred right after he took home three awards in the rap categories.

“I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar, did that for Atlanta / Did that for Atlanta, bruh, swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer, bruh,” he raps on the track’s third verse. “Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal, vicious and cannibal The Devil be doing you, right when you doing it, the Devil'll ruin you.”

He adds, “Behind me Satan, I walk out the door with my head up in handcuffs with pride / ‘'Cause all of my heroes wore handcuffs, the FBI shot some of them and they died.”

The Run the Jewels artist also rhymes about “sitting there in a room full of cops like Daniel was sitting with the lions” while he “kept on just keepin' my faith.”

On Sunday, Feb. 4, Killer Mike (real name Michael Render) was detained by authorities and escorted out of the Grammys in handcuffs after winning best rap song, best rap performance ("Scientist & Engineers") and best rap album (Michael) during the show's pre-telecast ceremony.

At the time, video footage of the arrest was captured by The Hollywood Reporter writer Chris Gardner and shared on X, with someone being heard saying "Free Mike." TMZ reported that the incident occurred after an "alleged physical confrontation.”

Shortly after, Killer Mike released a statement to PEOPLE to clarify what occurred during his arrest.

“I do want to note that last night, my team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK," he said. "As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter.”

He added, “We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office later revealed on Wednesday, June 26, that it would not be pursuing criminal charges against Killer Mike.

“Mr. Render has successfully completed the Office’s Hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed,” a representative from the Attorney’s Office told PEOPLE in a statement.

Right before dropping his latest single on Sunday, Killer Mike addressed his arrest on the BET Awards stage at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, near where he was detained earlier this year.

"Technically, I was not supposed to be here,” he said. “I was put in handcuffs, and I was marched out of this building. But I want to tell you — look at God, because I’m back, baby. I’m back and I’m living.

The “Down By Law” rapper continued his impassioned speech by emphasizing how impactful BET was in bringing him to the stage. “I want to tell Black people that because of BET, I'm back,” he continued. “Not because of no white person calling nobody. A Black man runs this business. A Black company put this show on, and they got my Black ass back in here. Thank y’all.”
