King Charles' coronation: All the music stars refusing to play at the event

While foreign royals and world leaders are eagerly awaiting an invitation to King Charles III's coronation ceremony, it seems the same can't be said regarding performers for the accompanying concert.

Several music stars have reportedly rejected an invitation to perform at the huge event, which is set to take place at Windsor Castle the day after the coronation on May 7.

The King was said to be keen to have two of the UK's biggest names in music, Ed Sheeran and Adele, perform, but both declined due to clashing schedules. Buckingham Palace also invited iconic music stars Elton John, Harry Styles and The Spice Girls to join the line-up, but all of them also turned down the offer.

Even our own Kylie Minogue, who performed at Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, was in talks to join the show, but ultimately made other plans. Although her team said she would be out of the country at the time of the event, Daily Mail reports she turned down the offer for a different reason.

"Kylie has been an honorary Brit for many, many years, and admires the Royal Family and everything that they do," a source told the publication. "But she is also a passionate Australian and has read the room in a country that could very soon become a republic."

However, it seems some acts have now been secured, with rumours circulating in the UK that Lionel Richie, a good friend of the King, will open the show, with performances to follow from UK pop group Take That. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald are all set to take the stage, however Robbie Williams - who started his career as part of the boy band - hasn't yet signed on to join them.

English singer-songwriter Olly Murs and musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber are also set to take part. Meanwhile, in an unlikely twist, US rapper Snoop Dogg has offered to perform, saying, "I'm down to perform at the coronation. Make it happen."

Snoop would love to perform at the event according to The Sun, and wants to pay tribute to the King's predecessor, who he lovingly refers to as "Queen Lizzie". The 51-year-old rapper's appreciation for the royal family emerged when Queen Elizabeth granted him permission to enter the UK after he was banned in the 1990s.

"When they tried to kick me out of England, the Queen made a comment that her grandbabies loved Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he had done no wrong in Britain, so she gave me permission to be here," he said. "Those grandbabies grew up to be Prince William and Harry, so I had influence on them and they had influence on their grandmother, which enabled me to get into this beautiful country. They love my music. There's mutual love and respect."
