King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer
The Royal Family revealed on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.
In an official statement, Buckingham Palace said, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” the statement continued. “He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
There’s no word on what form of cancer he was diagnosed with or what stage it is in.
News of the 75-year-old monarch’s diagnosis comes just weeks after Princess Kate was hospitalized following abdominal surgery. She was discharged last week and is recovering at home.
Charles was officially coronated last May, succeeding his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery,” said UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a statement. “I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.”
Charles was portrayed on Netflix’s The Crown by Billy Jenkins (as a child in Seasons 1-2), Julian Baring (as a teenager in Season 2), Josh O’Connor (Seasons 3-4) and, most recently, by Dominic West (Seasons 5-6).
