Woman's 'ingenious' hack using $1.50 Kmart ice cube trays
A very crafty Kmart lover has wowed social media users with an ‘ingenious’ hack using a very affordable but rather surprising kitchen item to create a chic and unique decor piece.
Teleasha from Perth got really creative when it came to her pineapple silicone ice cube tray which she picked up as part of a three-pack from the discount retailer for just $1.50.
Instead of making ice with it, she made a set of adorable bronze pineapple-shaped knobs that would instantly add flair and personality to drawers or cupboards.
Teleasha — who shares her incredible DIY projects on Owl And The Willow — tells Yahoo Lifestyle that ‘inspiration struck’ when she spotted the $1.50 Kmart ice cube trays.
“Furniture knobs and handles can be expensive...particularly if you need eight of them for a chest of drawers for example,” she says.
“The DIY pineapples handles are fun, unique but most importantly cost-effective,” she adds.
Over in a post in a Facebook group, she explained how she made the ‘cute handles’.
“I just placed a chrome knob in the ice cube tray then poured resin around it, let it set and then spray painted it!” she wrote.
Teleasha tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she used Dulux Rose Gold in High Gloss.

Teleasha told a Facebook user in the comments that she used Protite Casting Resin that as well as some Prestige 14mm polished chrome fingerpost knobs ($2.19 each) both of which she bought from Bunnings.
All in all, she estimates the cost per handle was about $3 each, making it a cheap and cheerful project that packs quite the stylish punch.
“This project is absolutely achievable for any DIYer! Working with resin can seem daunting but it honestly isn’t and this project is a great place to start,” she says.
“Just make sure you follow the instructions and mix the resin with the correct amount of catalyst (hardener). From there, the hardest part is waiting for the resin to set!”
Teleasha included several photos with her post, including a pic of the finished knobs in situ on the drawers of a blush pink hall table.
Over in the comments section of her post, Teleasha’s fellow Facebookers gushed over the hack, calling it “Ingenious!” and “Fabulous!”
“Omg!! How clever are you! Well done xxx,” wrote one.
“Woohhhhh... impressive!!!” remarked another.
One fan shared some very high praise, saying it was “probably the most clever hack I've ever seen.”
“This is amazing! I think you're going to put a lot of boutique handle makers out of business,” they added.
Others were inspired to try to the DIY themselves.
“That’s awesome. I’m looking at my ice cube trays now to see what’s good as knobs,” wrote one.
