South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has seemingly suggested that President Joe Biden's pet dog Commander be shot and killed like she did to her own dog, a shocking revelation that made headlines last week.

Noem, 52, reportedly writes in No Going Back, her memoir set for release on Tuesday, May 7, that she shot her 14-month-old wire-haired pointer puppy named Cricket because the animal was "less than worthless as a hunting dog," according to The Guardian. Noem later defended her decision in a post on X, claiming that killing the dog was the best course of action as it had displayed "aggressive behavior."

On Sunday, May 5, Noem appeared on Face the Nation to address the controversy, as well as a false story about Kim Jong Un contained within the forthcoming memoir. During the interview, host Margaret Brennan revealed that in a copy of the book obtained by CBS, Noem writes that if she ever made it to the White House she'd make sure Commander was no longer there. "Commander, say hello to Cricket," Noem's memoir says.

Commander, a 2-year-old purebred German shepherd, was removed from the White House on Oct. 2023 after several biting incidents.

When questioned about her comments regarding Commander in No Going Back, Noem said on Face the Nation, "Joe Biden’s dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog and what to do with it?"

Brennan pressed Noem, asking, "You’re saying he should be shot?"

Noem responded, "That’s what the president should be accountable to."

The White House has not yet addressed Noem's comments about Commander.

Ahead of the memoir's release, fact checkers disputed the accuracy of Noem's story that she met with North Korean leader Kim while on the House Armed Services Committee, a position she held from 2013-2015.

Noem's spokesperson acknowledged that a couple of "small errors" made it into the book in a statement to PEOPLE on May 3, and that it has been "communicated to the ghostwriter and editor."

"Kim Jong Un was included in a list of world leaders and shouldn't have been," the spokesperson said, noting that the book had not yet been released and "all future editions will be corrected."
