Even as Kyle Richards was getting real about the issues that plagued her marriage to Mauricio Umansky on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she hadn't yet told their daughters they were separated.

On this season of the hit Bravo show, Richards has been open about the tough times the couple has endured and chronicled the events that have led to their separation.

"I've shown so much over these 13 years of my life," she told E! News. "The first scene we shot all together, I said, 'My husband and I are having a hard time.' And that was very hard for me to share on camera because I was processing that myself."

"We hadn't even shared that with our daughters yet," she said, referring to their children Farrah, Alexia, Sophia and Portia.

Despite the rough patch in her 27-year marriage, Richards said that they're taking things "a day at a time."

"We still live in the same house, and we get along. Our girls never grew up with fighting in the house and it's still not like that. We just don't argue," she continued. "It's just trying to work through things and taking it slowly."

In July 2023, a source told PEOPLE that Richards and Mauricio, 53, had separated but were still living together, adding, "They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family."

When season 13 of RHOBH premiered in October, Richards acknowledged that this latest round of filming was "challenging to say the least" in a candid post shared to Instagram.

"Tonight! Season 13 begins. 13 years… Here we go again. Each season always brings surprise twists and turns. This season more than ever," wrote Richards.

"I am normally one to isolate when I am struggling," she admitted, "so navigating through this time in my life while cameras were rolling was challenging to say the least."

"Ultimately, that has been what has kept me coming back year after year. That and my relationships with the people that make RHOBH. Cast and crew," she added. "So, now it’s time to sit back and watch (and for me to relive these moments — good and bad)."

Fans have indeed seen Richards' good and bad moments this season on RHOBH. Eagle-eyed housewives have spotted missing wedding bands, and her friends in the cast have been concerned that her new lifestyle changes were attempts to seek control in "extremes."

In one episode, Richards admitted she feared that the couple were "growing in different directions."

“I think with the way my relationship is right now, I'm not happy,” she said in a confessional interview. “I'm sort of now working on myself inside, and I feel like he's very focused on his work. I don't want to wake up, you know, a few years down the road and be like, ‘Who are you?’”
