Rail passengers were warned to expect disruption as a signal failure at Waterloo station impacted train services for a third day on Friday.

But the incident was cleared by 7pm and services returned to normal, National Rail said.

Some trains running from London Paddington to South Wales are being diverted between Swindon and Newport.

Meanwhile several Underground lines face disruption.

Waterloo disruption expected until end of day

A signal failure at Waterloo is causing issues for a third day.

Trains are unable to use platforms one to three, and National Rail warns services to and from Waterloo may also be revised or cancelled.

Until further notice the following alterations also apply:

  • London Waterloo to Shepperton services will be diverted between Clapham Junction and Fulwell, calling additionally at Twickenham and Strawberry Hill

  • Shepperton to London Waterloo services will be diverted between Fulwell and Clapham Junction calling additionally at Strawberry Hill and Twickenham

  • Kingston to London Waterloo services via Strawberry Hill and Richmond will not call at Queenstown Road (Battersea)

Rail lines reopen following disruption between Elsenham and Stansted Mountfitchet

All lines have now reopened following overhead wire problems between Elsenham and Stansted Mountfitchet.

Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption between Cambridge and Bishops Stortford is expected until 9am.

Central Line disruption expected to continue for several weeks

The Central line is currently facing disruptions, leading to longer wait times and crowded services due to unpredictable gaps between trains.

The disruption stems from an unusually high rate of motor failures in trains that have been operating for over 30 years, despite ongoing maintenance efforts.

In response, TFL says it’s intensifying efforts to repair and replace faulty motors and address other age-related issues to reduce the number of trains out of service.

However, the disruption is expected to continue for several weeks.

Expect minor delays from Camden Town to Battersea Power Station via Charing Cross going southbound due to a track fault investigation near Waterloo. The rest of the line is operating normally.

M20 closed eastbound due to a police incident

The M20 in Kent is closed eastbound between J10A (Ashford) and J11 (Westenhanger) due to an ongoing Kent police led incident.

Due to the nature of the incident the road is likely to remain closed throughout the day.

The westbound carriageway is currently held to allow the Air Ambulance to attend the scene.

National Highways service providers remain in attendance, assisting with traffic management.

Minor delays between London St Pancras International and London Blackfriars

The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Three Bridges and Horsham. Whilst they carry out their work, all lines are closed.The routes affected include Southern between London Victoria and Bognor Regis/Portsmouth & Southsea/Southampton Central.

Disruption between Earlsfield and Wimbledon

Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 6pm.

Disruption between London Paddington and South Wales

Some trains running from London Paddington to South Wales are being diverted between Swindon and Newport.

Great Western Railway said this will add approximately 45 minutes to the journey.

Bristol Parkway will not be served.

The rail company urged passengers to check before boarding if they require Bristol Parkway.

London Waterloo incident now over, say South Western Railway

Trains are now running normally following an operational incident at London Waterloo.

South Western Railway said there should be no further delay to journeys.

It reminded passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more, they may be entitled to claim compensation

South Western Railway: Disruption between Earlsfield and Wimbledon to last until Saturday

South Western Railway said: “At this time, we estimate disruption to our services until the end of the day.”
