Mama Bear and Her Cubs Go for a Swim in Calif. Couple's Pool: 'Cutest Thing Ever'

A video on Instagram shows the mother bear stepping into the pool and swimming as her two cubs watch her by the edge

A mama bear brought her cubs along for a dip in a California couple's pool.

In a video shared on Instagram in a joint post by Monrovia couple Rick Martinez and Brian Gordon on May 6, the mama bear can be seen strolling into the backyard with her cubs following behind her.

She then steps into the pool and goes for a swim as her two cubs sit and watch her at a safe distance from the water.

A second and third slide features the bears looking through the home's glass doors, while the trio were also spotted climbing a tree in another video.

“Cuteness overload... New bear family in town and they also the smallest cubs we've ever seen 🥰. Aww, we hope to watch them grow happy and healthy 😊,” the caption read.

The post also featured the mama bear scratching her back against a tree, while the final clip revealed a cub separated from their mother by a gate.

In an interview with The Guardian, the couple revealed bears are frequent visitors in their mountain neighborhood. While the first sighting was alarming, they've come to enjoy the visits from their bear neighbors.

"We realized they were passing through," Martinez told the outlet. "They stay away from us."

Bears are reportedly very common in the Monrovia area, which is near Angeles National Forest.

"We tend to get lots of wildlife crossing through here," Ricky Martinez told local affiliate NBC LA. "We are always left in awe when we see the bears, especially a momma bear with cubs. We haven't seen cubs that little before, and it was the cutest thing ever."

Martinez had been eating his food when he heard a noise. While the mama bear, who the couple calls Maddie, comes to the backyard often, this was the first time he had seen her with two cubs.

"We see her often," he said. "I think one of the neighbors got 400,000 Likes on Instagram. She's swinging on a swing. She was at a open house in somebody's hot tub down the street. So, we see her quite a bit. She's even crashed our pool parties. If we're barbecuing, she’ll show up and scare everyone."

While Martinez and Gordon are happy to let the bears visit their backyard, they told NBC LA they're careful to always keep their distance and avoid leaving trash or food out.

“This is their land,” Martinez told The Guardian. “They are used to coming through here. We have healthy boundaries with them. If they’re outside we stay inside. We let them do their thing, we admire them."
