Man Considers Dumping Girlfriend After She Ignores Him While Undergoing Emergency Surgery on His Groin

A man is contemplating ending his relationship with his girlfriend after she ignored him during emergency surgery.

In a post on the "Am I an A--hole" subreddit, the man described how the situation unfolded while his girlfriend was out celebrating her best friend's birthday at a club.

He had planned to spend a quiet evening alone watching television when, around 11 p.m., he began experiencing stomach pain, likening it to being hit in the groin. Initially dismissing it as minor, the 22-year-old soon found himself immobilized by escalating pain.

Hoping the discomfort would subside, he reached for his phone upon noticing swelling in his right testicle, only to collapse from the intensity of the agony.

"That was probably the worst pain I've ever felt in my life," he recalled.

Despite his distress, his attempts to contact his girlfriend were in vain. She declined his calls and responded to his texts with an indifferent "What is it? 😒," as he wrote in the post.

"I just put the phone down and started throwing up because of the pain," he continued. "After throwing up for like a minute, it felt like the pain started to cool down a bit, and I grabbed my phone again, and that's when I saw her response."

Realizing his girlfriend's lack of concern, he called emergency services and was questioned about transportation to the hospital. Assuming she would soon return home, he indicated she could drive him. However, her continued disregard left him without assistance.

"I checked my phone and saw that my gf just responded with laughing emojis," he said. "I again tried to call her, but as expected, she just declined again."

Eventually, he had to call emergency services again for an ambulance. Later, upon arriving at the hospital, he was sedated and remembers little of the subsequent events, including the surgery.

Upon regaining consciousness, the man learned that his right testicle had been surgically repaired due to testicular torsion, a condition requiring timely medical intervention. The man also checked his phone and found missed calls and messages from his girlfriend.

He explained how she had returned home from clubbing, smelled the vomit in their apartment, and became upset.

"When she realized I wasn't there, only then did it hit her that I was actually being serious," he added. "I just texted her the hospital and my room number, then went to sleep. I woke up the next morning to find my girlfriend sleeping on a couch next to my bed."

The man stated that once his girlfriend woke up, she apologized.

"I was deeply hurt by what she did, and I wanted to break up with her then and there," the man, who was planning on proposing to his girlfriend in the upcoming months, said.

"She did stay with me in the hospital for the remaining two days of my admission and took good care of me, but I was still deeply upset with her," he continued.

"Ever since coming home yesterday, I've been wanting to dump her, but at the same time, I feel like she genuinely thought I was joking and made a mistake. I feel conflicted and don't know how to proceed in this situation," he added.

The man's post has gone viral garnering over 12 thousand and over 6.8 thousand comments from people sharing their thoughts on the situation. Several of the comments suggest that the man deserves a partner who treats him better.

"I can’t imagine my partner blocking my number at all while we’re actively dating lmao, let alone while I’m in the midst of a health crisis. Gargantuan red flag," one user wrote.

Someone else wrote, "You deserve better than this. Go pack that ring away and wait for the person it should actually be for to enter your life. And start doing the necessary steps to no longer live with your stbx gf."
