Man dead after shooting in Rexdale

A man died after a shooting in northwest Toronto late Sunday, police say.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Bergamot Avenue, near the corner of Rexdale Boulevard and Islington Avenue in Rexdale, around 11:40 p.m. for reports of gunfire.

A man believed to be in his 20s was found with gunshot wounds. He had no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators say.

At a news conference at the scene Monday morning, police told reporters that they are working to notify the victim's next of kin and will not be releasing any further information.

No suspect information has been released at this time.

Officers are continuing to canvass the area Monday to gather evidence. Anyone who may have information or was in the area at the time is asked to contact police.
