Man who punched and bit driver and police after being told bus was out of service jailed
A man who kicked and bit a bus driver and his arresting officers in the City has been jailed for two years and seven months.
Reece Sudbury, 34, of Romford, attacked a bus driver on Worship Street on August 27 2022 in a fit of rage after being told the bus was out of service.
He tackled the victim, punching and biting him - and then when police arrived, turned on them too, kicking one officer and biting another while being restrained.
He attempted to headbutt others while en-route to custody, and assaulted another two officers while detained.
Sudbury pleaded guilty to one count of assault against the bus driver and four counts of assault on emergency workers.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of commercial burglary that took place in Barking and Dagenham between September and December of 2023, whilst he was on court bail for the original assaults.
Detective Constable Sam Lowe, from the City of London Police, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a hard-working bus driver just going about his job.
“Sudbury is a violent individual who after being arrested was persistently aggressive and punched and bit our officers. Our officers acted professionally and without fear.
“Our message is clear and simple – do not come to the City and attack our public servants. Our officers will respond and bring you to justice.”
Sudbury was sentenced on Friday at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
