Mayhem as ladies' snowboard cross ends in chaos

Michela Moioli has claimed gold for Italy after a chaotic four-way photo finish in the women's snowboard cross at PyeongChang on Friday.

The 22-year-old came through the carnage at the finish line to take gold ahead of French teen sensation Julia Pereira de Sousa Mabileau and reigning Olympic champion Eva Samkova, of the Czech Republic.

The Italian landed the final jump cleanly to take home the gold but it was a photo finish among four riders for the minor medals.

Two of the four women locked in a tense battle for a medal crashed over the finish line, with 16-year-old Frenchwoman de Sousa Mabileau just pipping Samkova for the silver.

Australia's Belle Brockhoff, competing without an ACL, made it to the semi-finals of the event before she crashed out of big finals contention.

To her credit though, Brockhoff bravely managed to get back up and complete the race, despite being in considerable pain.

She then took her place in the small final, also completing the race to finish 11th.

"I represented my country as best as I could," Brockhoff said after her final race, breaking down in tears.
