A man in Maryland has been arrested on murder charges after his mother was found dead in a bathtub.

On Monday, May 6, the Maryland State Police Department shared in a press release that officers took 48-year-old Jeremy Gentry from Fruitland into custody on charges of first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

According to police, shortly before 9 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 5, Fruitland Police Department and emergency medical service personnel were dispatched to Jeremy’s home — which he shared with his 68-year-old mother Beatrice Kay Gentry — due to a report of an unconscious woman.

Emergency crews met with Beatrice’s husband at the entry to the home and located an “unresponsive” Beatrice in the bathtub. She was pronounced dead at the scene, per the release.

Authorities said that Maryland State Police Forensic Crime Scene Technicians “processed the scene for evidence” and Jeremy was determined as a “suspect” as a result of “further investigative efforts.”

“Subsequent consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office led to State Police investigators obtaining an arrest warrant for Jeremy Gentry," the Maryland State Police Department said in its statement.

Police said Gentry was arrested Monday morning without incident.

The cause and manner of Beatrice’s death are still pending autopsy results.
