Miranda Tapsell talks diversity on Aussie TV

Love Child actress Miranda Tapsell may be kicking goals in Aussie showbiz, but the star believes we should never stop striving for progress when it comes to diversity on our screens.

"I don't want people to ever think that 'we've made it' just because you've seen Jess Mauboy in The Secret Daughter or me on Love Child or you've seen any content featuring indigenous people... that we've solved the problem of diversity," the Logie-award winner explained.

"Progress never stops so we can't rest on our lorals when it comes to the kind of stories that we want to keep exploring.

"Our identity as a whole of Australia continues to change, and so our stories are only going to get more and more interesting as we continues to explore our ever-changing society."

Miranda shot to fame thanks to her breakout role as Cynthia in the 2012 film, The Sapphires.

Since then, the 27-year-old has been cast in a slew of Aussie dramas, including Redfern Now, Black Comedy, and most recently, Love Child.

In 2015, Miranda won two well-deserved Logies, including Best New Talent and Most Outstanding Newcomer, for her performance as Martha in Love Child.

"I'm very grateful for the opportunities I've been given since The Sapphires and Love Child and winning the Logie," says Miranda.

"It's really, really wonderful and I hope we continue to make those stories about multiculturalism and what our culture really is."

But does she have any plans to follow in the footsteps of so many other Aussie ex-pats and head to the US to pursue acting?

"I'm certainly not ruling it out," she spilled.

"I love the work that's happening in the US at the moment that I'm being exposed to, I think those stories over there are exciting... but there's some great Australian stories happening here too."

Phew - fans of Love Child can breathe a sigh of relief!

Speaking of the emotionally-charged show, Miranda dishes on what her favourite season of the series was to film.

"I have to say Season Two was particularly special because Martha got to find her mum. And I know that obviously meant something to a lot of people so I was really proud of that season. I'm enjoying season three because it's nice to see Martha find happiness."

But the million-dollar question... will there be a Season Four?

"I really hope so! But I don't know," says Miranda.

We're keeping our fingers and toes crossed!

Love child Season 3 is out now on DVD.
