Need More Met Gala? The Upcoming Pet Gala Will Recreate the 2024 Met Gala's Looks for Dogs

The Pet Gala will take place on May 20, the third Monday in May, at the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City

Dozens of stars strutted up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 6 for the 2024 Met Gala, and the fashionable dogs of the world took note.

On May 20, the third Monday in May, pet designer Anthony Rubio will host his inaugural Pet Gala at the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City.

According to the museum, the Pet Gala is a tribute to the Met Gala and its stunning fashions. The event will feature canines wearing recreations of the celebrity looks from the 2024 Met Gala carpet.

There is potentially a chance to see a boxer dog wearing a version of Jessica Biel's bountiful pink gown or collie modeling a dog-friendly version of Kim Kardashian's cinched silver look. The exact Met Gala outfits Rubio will recreate for the Pet Gala have yet to be revealed.

The Pet Gala will include a staircase photo shoot and a runway show at the AKC Museum of the Dog, and a seated dinner.

"Having borne witness to the stunning fashions of the Met Gala for decades, it was instantly clear that the AKC Museum of the Dog is the only suitable home for Anthony Rubio's Pet Gala," Christopher Bromson, Executive Director of the AKC Museum of the Dog, said in a statement.

"On May 20, it will be the steps of the AKC Museum of the Dog that brim with glamour, where breathtaking pieces will wind their way through our gallery. Together, we'll celebrate these creations for what they truly are: art," he added.

Anthony Rubio has experience crafting red-carpet-ready looks for dogs. He has been in the fashion industry for over 20 years and has designed gowns for dogs, including other Met Gala recreations, for 10 years.

"The designers for The Met Gala have months to create their looks for celebrities to shine on the red carpet. I have two weeks to recreate them and for dogs," Anthony Rubio said in a statement.

"For the Pet Gala, I have to figure out how to translate garments worn by humans onto our four-legged stars. Humans can suffer for their fashion, but dogs will not. Their comfort and safety is my top priority," he assured.

Animal lovers and fashion fans can see Rubio's dog dresses for themselves by attending the Pet Gala. Unlike the Met Gala, invitations are not required to attend the Pet Gala. Tickets are on sale to the public now.
