Naomi Watts reveals real reason behind 'quick' wedding to Billy Crudup

"It was very special and memorable."

Naomi Watts has opened up about her courthouse wedding to fellow actor Billy Crudup, saying the couple wanted a no-frills ceremony because they were eager to get married quickly.

Naomi, 55, and Billy, also 55, began dating in 2017 after starring in the Netflix series Gypsy together. Rumours of an engagement sparked in 2023 after Naomi was spotted wearing a ring, and the pair confirmed they tied the knot in June 2023.

Naomi talked about the nuptials in an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying the couple wanted an 'efficient' way to get married and weren't focused on a big ceremony which is why they chose a New York courthouse wedding.

"It just happened that way," she said. "We knew we wanted to do it, it was something we were very keen on doing and quickly. It's an efficient way to do it.

"It was really lovely. It was a classic New York day. You ran into all kinds of people, some were dressed to the nines, and some were walking quickly in and out. It was very special and memorable."

The couple took to Instagram to share the news after it happened, posing on the steps of a Manhattan courthouse with a simple caption: 'Hitched'.

Naomi looked stunning in a lacy white gown, while Billy sported a tie-less tux.

Naomi was previously married to Liev Schreiber with whom she shares two children. The two announced their divorce after 11 years together in 2016.

Billy is also parent to a son, William Atticus Parker who he shares with Mary-Louise Parker, who was seven months pregnant when Billy left their relationship and began dating Claire Danes.
