Nicole's adopted children 'upset' after Emmys speech

It seems Nicole Kidman's controversial speech after winning her first Emmy award for her role as Celeste in Big Little Lies has had an impact on some close to her.

New reports suggest that her adopted children with ex Tom Cruise, Isabella and Connor, are "very upset" that the 50-year-old Australian actress didn't mention them when accepting her award for Outstanding Lead Actress, only mentioning her daughters Sunny and Faith, whom she shares with husand Keith Urban.

According to Woman's Day magazine, 24-year-old Isabella "didn't watch the Emmys", but an insider tells the publication that after reading about it and discovering she and Connor weren't mentioned, Bella "took it as a big snub".

When accepting her award last week, Nicole thanked her family, saying she has "two little girls" naming her "Sunny and Faith, and my darling Keith," in her speech.

"I have a huge artistic family who have supported me through all my ups and downs," she said.

"I also am a mother and a wife. I have two little girls, Sunny and Faith, and my darling Keith, who I ask to help me pursue this artistic path. And they have to sacrifice so much for it."

In her speech, the actress acknowleged balancing her career with raising her daughters, saying, "I want my little girls to have this [trophy] on their shelf, and to look at it and go, 'Every time my mama didn't put me to bed, it's because of this.'"

The mum is married to country singer Keith Urban, with whom she has daughters, Faith, 8, and six-year-old Sunday Rose.

Meanwhile Nicole adopted Isabella and Connor in 1993 and 1995 respectively with her then-husband Tom Cruise.

Nicole and Tom split in 2001 and Connor and Isabella, who were raised as devout Scientologists, chose to live with Tom.

Back in 2007, she revealed they’d stopped calling her “mum”, telling GMTV: “My kids don't call me mummy, they don't even call me mum. They call me Nicole, which I hate and tell them off for it.”

However, in 2012, Isabelle confirmed she was back in touch with Nicole.

“I love mum. She's my mum. She's great. I see her sometimes and I speak to her… We’re a very close family,” she told New Idea. “I love all of our family.”

The film saw Nicole's character, Sue, and her husband, John, adopt a five-year-old boy from an orphanage in Calcutta, only for him to go searching for his real parents 25 years on.

“It's not about anything other than, ‘I wanted you whatever your journey is, I'm here to love and support you,’” she told The Daily Telegraph at the time.

“That's what I connected to. I wanted to make the film for them.

“When you are an adoptive mother, of course you think about the birth mother and the birth parents and what it all means and how our lives are intertwined in some way, whether the child choose to find the birth parents or not."
