RCMP say they are investigating a death in Rankin Inlet Friday morning that police deemed suspicious.

The force located a deceased person at around 1 a.m. and arrested a suspect "without incident" at around 10:30 a.m., according to an RCMP news release issued midday Friday.

Police issued a shelter-in-place alert Friday morning and posted a notice on their Facebook page advising people to stay away from the area of the shooting range because there was a man with a firearm in a blue pickup truck.

Police later posted an update saying they had located the truck.

The alert was the second emergency alert in two weeks in the hamlet.

The Nunavut RCMP Major Crimes Unit is taking over the investigation, RCMP said in the release.
