Patrick Dempsey Set to Team Up with Christian Slater in “Dexter: Original Sin”

The Grey’s Anatomy alum, 58, has signed on to be a full-time cast member on Showtime’s new series Dexter: Original Sin. He will play the Miami Metro Homicide Captain Aaron Spencer, “who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan (Christian Slater),” according to the press release.
“Patrick Dempsey is a beloved actor who is internationally known for the iconic characters he has played and his performances," stated Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise."

Patrick DempseyIn this new series, fans will get to see Dexter’s evolution from childhood, where he emerges into a serial killer. The show will highlight Dexter (Patrick Gibson) and his dad Harry developing a system to find people who are a detriment to society so Dexter can kill them without law enforcement finding out, according to the synopsis.
The plot twist comes when Dexter gets an internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, and has to mask the other side of him, which is where Dempsey’s character comes in.
The star-studded cast also includes Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.
This isn’t the only Dexter spinoff — in February 2023, the network confirmed a new version of the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, which will follow Dexter’s son Harrison.

"The series is a rich foundation for other shows in the lane of complex, subversive antiheroes that Showtime has always done so brilliantly. Clyde is deep into compelling stories and characters that will satisfy the cravings of our multifaceted audience."

The original Dexter, which starred Emmy-winner Michael C. Hall, ran for eight season from 2006 to 2013. The series finale left Dexter in a new place in his life, seemingly working as a lumberjack after the death of his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter).
