Planters Recalls Peanuts and Nut Mixes Due to Listeria Concerns

The Planters products recalledPlanters recalled two products sold at Dollar Tree and Publix locations due to potential Listeria contamination.
On May 3, Hormel Food Sales, LLC voluntarily recalled 4 oz. bags of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75 oz. cans of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, according to the FDA.
The affected Honey Roasted Peanuts have a UPC code (located under the bar code) of 2900002097 and best by date of April 11, 2025. The recalled Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts have a UPC code of 2900001621 and best by date of April 5, 2026.
The nuts were sent to Publix warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina and to Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

Young children and elderly people are at a higher risk of becoming severely sick if they contract listeria, as are immunocompromised and pregnant people. Symptoms typically include fever and flu-like reactions, such as muscle aches and fatigue, according to the CDC.
The symptoms typically begin within two weeks of eating contaminated food but can start the same day or up to 70 days later, according to the CDC.
No illnesses have been reported related to the Planters recall. Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to discard the product or return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund. Anyone with further questions can contact Hormel Food Sales, LLC.
