Police have launched a probe after a woman’s body was discovered near a residential block of flats in Golders Green on Thursday morning.

A resident in Granville Road raised the alarm just before 9am after discovering the woman’s body.

Her death is being treated as “unexpected and unexplained,” said the Met Police.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “A member of the public had reported finding the body of a woman. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

“The woman was confirmed to be deceased. A crime scene is in place.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a passer-by said: “There was a body found in a recycling bin. The police were there checking life vitals and there was a backpack next to the bin with personal items in.”

This has not been confirmed by police.

Pictures from the scene, at the foot of a block called Harpenmead Point, showed a police cordon with officers investigating.

A pink rucksack could also be seen on top of one of the bins.
