Waterloo regional police conducted search warrants Thursday at two businesses where officers retrieved large quantities of  psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.

The businesses were in the areas of King Street in Cambridge and Victoria Street and Park Street in Kitchener. Police confirmed the businesses were at the same locations where FunGuyz mushroom shops have been illegally operating out of.

A 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman from Cambridge were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and fail to comply with undertaking, according to police.

One of the women was held for bail.

Both stores have been raided by police multiple times. Despite the stores reopening, police say the public sale of psilocybin is illegal and businesses selling the products are operating unlawfully.

"Businesses engaged in selling these products are operating unlawfully, and the substances they offer are neither regulated nor subject to quality control measures," police said in a release.
