The Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Friday, and it turns out the Queen has a secret message inscribed inside her wedding ring that's been kept under wraps all these years.

Marrying the Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey on 20th November 1947, the Queen received her wedding ring made from Welsh gold, but the inscription inside it has remained a secret.

There are apparently only three people who actually know what the inscription says: the Queen, Prince Philip, and the jeweller who made it. What's more: the Queen reportedly never takes her wedding ring off, so it's unlikely even members of her close family or staff will ever catch a glimpse of the secret message.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward revealed details of the ring in her new book Prince Philip: Revealed, including the fact that it's made from Welsh gold, in keeping with royal tradition.

"At least Philip didn't have the expense of a wedding ring, as the people of Wales supplied a nugget of Welsh gold from which the ring is made," writes Seward. And the tradition has continued, with Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton and Princess Diana's wedding rings all also made from Welsh gold.

Revealing details on the Queen's wedding ring inscription, Seward writes, "She never takes it off and inside the ring is an inscription. No one knows what it says, other than the engraver, the Queen and her husband."

Well, their marriage has certainly stood the test of time, and the Queen and Prince Philip received the sweetest wedding anniversary surprise from their great grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The three children, aged seven, five and two respectively, made a handmade anniversary card for their great grandparents, complete with a 3D number '73' - and it's absolutely adorable.

Here's to more happy years of marriage!
