New recycling centre to create up to 35 jobs

A recycling centre which will create up to 35 jobs has been approved in Rotherham.

Newton Hydrogen Limited will occupy an empty building at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in the town.

The unit will convert plastic rubbish into hydrogen, which can then be used as clean fuel for vehicles such as bin lorries.

The applicants said that besides creating jobs, visitors would also be able to view the centre from a platform.

Up to 13,000 tonnes of plastic unsuitable for normal recycling will be processed at the unit every year, the company said in its planning application.

The site will operate 24-hours a day, though deliveries will be restricted to between 07:00 and 17:00, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Rotherham Council approved the plans on 24 April.
