Remains of 6 People, Including 3 Kids, Recovered From Burned House After Uncle Killed Family, Shot 2 Officers

"As much as we would like answers, we will likely never know what lead the suspect to kill his family and then himself," DA Jack Stollsteimer said in a statement

Six bodies have been found following a house fire and shooting in Pennsylvania last week.

On Friday, authorities gave an update on their search, which began Wednesday after the incident that left two police officers wounded and at least six people unaccounted for in East Lansdowne.

According to NBC News, WHYY and Fox 29, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said at a press conference that the remains of three people were found Thursday morning while another three were found Friday. All were believed to be members of the Le family and included three children, loved ones told NBC News.

According to 6ABC, loved ones have identified the victims as parents Britni McLaughlin-Le, 37, and Xuong Le, 40, and their three children 10-year-old Xavier, 13-year-old NaKayla, and 17-year-old NaTalya.

Authorities have identified the suspect, who officials believe is among the six bodies recovered, as 43-year-old Cahn Le, the outlet reported.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Cahn was Xuong’s brother and authorities believe Cahn shot and killed the victims, then shot two responding officers and set the house on fire.

The county medical examiner’s office is working to determine the official causes of death, WHYY reports, citing authorities.

The incident unfolded around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after a 911 caller reported that an 11-year-old girl had been shot inside an East Lansdowne home, Stollsteimer previously said at a press conference streamed by 6ABC.

Once at the scene, officers from three local police agencies were “immediately met by gunfire,” Stollsteimer said, per 6ABC. He added that two officers were struck and dragged to safety by fellow officers.

The veteran officers were later identified as 54-year-old David Schiazza of the Lansdowne Police Department and 44-year-old John Meehan of the East Lansdowne Police Department, authorities said, according to 6ABC, the Associated Press and CBS News. Both were expected to recover.

At some point after that, the home was “set on fire,” Stollsteimer said. He has yet to share a possible motive.

The local community held a vigil on Saturday, letting balloons go into the sky as a way to remember the Le family.

"This is an unimaginable loss that no one can fathom or expect to prepare for, but we can see how much they were loved by the community," Britni's sister said, per 6ABC.

Britni's father, John McLaughlin, added to the outlet that his daughter and Xuong had been married for 17 years.

Now that the search has concluded, the property will be turned over to the township to be demolished, according to Fox 29.

In a statement to PEOPLE, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said, "Last week was one of the toughest weeks of my tenure as District Attorney."

"An unspeakable tragedy has befallen a family - and a community. As much as we would like answers, we will likely never know what lead the suspect to kill his family and then himself. We must now turn our focus to supporting the remaining members of the Le family, as well as to the families of the two officers who were wounded in responding to this horrific scene, and to the surrounding community of neighbors, all of whom have been traumatized by last week’s events," he said.

"My continued prayers for the officers, their families, the Le family, and the souls of the innocent victims; may they find peace in a far better place,” the statement concluded.
