Rescue: HI-Surf Adds Shawn Hatosy, Staging Mini Animal Kingdom Reunion

It’s back to the beach for Shawn Hatosy. The actor, best known for playing Andrew “Pope” Cody on TNT’s Animal Kingdom, is joining the cast of Fox’s Rescue: HI-Surf in a recurring role, our sister site Deadline reports.

Ordered for the 2024–2025 TV season, Rescue: HI-Surf “is an action-packed drama that follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu — the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world,” according to Fox. “Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.”

Hatosy will play Councilman Clayton Emerson, whose future as the next mayor of Honolulu is practically guaranteed. He also happens to be the father of rookie lifeguard Kainalu (Alex Aiono). This casting reunites Hatosy with Animal Kingdom‘s John Wells, who serves as an executive producer on Rescue: HI-Surf, and Animal Kingdom writer Matt Kester, who created the emergency procedural. They are both co-showrunners with Daniele Nathanson.

Hatosy is also set to direct the twelfth installment of Rescue: HI-Surf‘s first season, which recently had its order increased to 19 total episodes.

Rescue: HI-Surf has also cast The Resident’s Ian Anthony Dale in the recurring role of fireman Sean Harimoto. After working with Emily (Arielle Kebbel) on an intense rescue, Sean finds himself impressed by Em’s fearlessness — and is hoping to get to know her even better.

The procedural’s previously announced cast of series regulars includes Kebbel (9-1-1) as Emily, Aiono (Pretty Little Liars: Summer School) as Kainalu, New Zealand actor Robbie Magasiva as Sonny, Adam Demos (Sex/Life) as Will, Kekoa Kekumano (The White Lotus) as Laka, Zoe Cipres (Roswell, New Mexico) as Hina and Sea Shimooka (3 Body Problem) as Jenn.
