Motorists have been warned of weeks of disruption during work on a section of a busy route into Leicester.

Road closures, bus diversions and stopping restrictions will be in place on Narborough Road between the junction with Kingsway and Fosse Park Avenue in July and August.

The restrictions are due to National Grid undertaking a "power grid reinforcement scheme" in the area, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Highways authority Leicestershire County Council said the work was needed for public safety.

Narborough Road northbound, between Hazel Drive and Kingsway, has been closed until 06:00 BST on 1 July.

The same stretch is due to shut again from 20:00 on 5 July to 06:00 on 7 July.

A one-way closure has also been planned for the southbound side, towards Fosse Park, between Hazel Drive and Narborough Road South from 20:00 on 12 July to 06:00 on 15 July.

The same section will again close during the same hours on 19 July and 22 July.

Access to Asda car park from the Narborough Road South service road will be blocked between 20:00 on 26 July and 29 July.

Waiting and loading restrictions will be in place during the work between 28 June and 12 July.

Various bus lane closures have also been planned between 22 July and 13 August.

Diversions will be in place during the closures.
