Drena De Niro is honoring her son, Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, one year after his death.

The daughter Robert De Niro dedicated a touching tribute to her late son on the first anniversary of his death on Instagram, alongside never-before-seen photos of Leandro and one of his grave.

She kicked off her post with a photo of her son posing in a leather jacket and leather pants, with his arms open wide. In the next picture, Leandro again wore a leather jacket and white shirt while he turned his head to the side, with his hair covering his face.

Drena, 52, then shared more recent photos, including lines from a poem about the power of someone’s presence in a person’s life and a snap visiting her son's grave, which was adorned with several vases of flowers. She concluded the Instagram carousel with a picture of Leandro smiling.

“I KNEW this kid was jacking my clothes behind my back !!!,” Drena jokingly began her caption.

Drena initially shared the news about the death of her son, who was 19 years old, on July 2, 2023, writing on Instagram in part, “Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.”

Robert, 80, also shared his grief following his grandson's death, saying in a statement to PEOPLE, "I'm deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We're greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo."

A spokesperson for the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information told PEOPLE at the time that a “male was found unconscious, unresponsive and was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene" after police received a 911 at around 2:23 p.m. on July 2, 2023.

The following month, the New York City chief medical examiner's office confirmed to PEOPLE that Leandro died of an accidental drug overdose, specifically due to the "toxic effects of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine."

"Someone sold him fentanyl laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him," Drena wrote on Instagram days after Leandro's death. "So for all these people still f---ing around selling and buying this s---, my son is gone forever."
