Roger Federer suffers fresh blow thanks to Aus Open shocker
Roger Federer’s shock loss in the fourth round of the Australian Open continues to haunt him.
In the latest ATP rankings released on Monday, Federer suffered another blow.
REMARKABLE: Serena’s special rankings first since birth of daughter
The Swiss Maestro dropped from No.6 to No.7, despite not playing a match since his upset loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at Melbourne Park.
It’s the lowest Federer has been ranked since January 2017, prior to his back-to-back Australian Open titles in ’17 and ’18.
The 20-time grand slam champion recently admitted he is no longer concerned about the World No.1 ranking, but he’d surely like to be a bit higher than No.7.
Djokovic extends lead
Novak Djokovic maintained the No. 1 spot with 10,955 points, ahead of Rafael Nadal by a difference of more than 2500 points.
The top-10 remained unchanged except for Kei Nishikori leapfrogging Federer after making the semi-finals in Rotterdam.
Alexander Zverev remained world No. 3, followed by Juan Martin del Potro and Kevin Anderson.
Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem, John Isner and Marin Cilic held onto their eighth, ninth and 10th positions.
Gael Monfils of France jumped 10 places to be ranked 23rd following his victory in Rotterdam, while Stan Wawrinka rocketed 27 places up to world No. 41, thanks to being runner-up at the same tournament.
