Sarah Jessica Parker Says She ‘Literally Couldn’t Sit’ in Her 2024 Met Gala Dress — and Didn’t Stay for Dinner

The 'And Just Like That...' star's look was among the most fashionable of the night — but lacked in the function department

Sarah Jessica Parker chose fashion over function at the 2024 Met Gala.

The And Just Like That... star and Met Gala regular (Monday, May 6 marked her 12th appearance at the Costume Institute's annual benefit since 1996!), 59, chose a sculptural Richard Quinn corset gown for the event, which she topped off with a Philip Treacy fascinator.

On the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's famous steps, SJP posed — standing — in what appeared to be a sprinter van. It turns out, Parker couldn't have sat down if she'd wanted to, she revealed on Today with Hoda and Jenna on Tuesday, May 7.

When Hoda Kotb asked if there was music and dinner at the star-studded event, Parker replied, "There is. I couldn’t sit. Literally couldn’t sit."

Kotb then asked, "You didn't stay for dinner?" to which the actress replied, "I didn't."

Parker went on to tell Kotb and co-host Jenna Bush Hager that she also had "things to do" the morning after the first Monday in May, meaning she had to cut the night short anyway.

That said, she didn't squander "a really lovely opportunity" to take in the new exhibition: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."

"That exhibit this year at the Costume Institute … it is the most unforgettable, glorious exhibition I have ever seen," she said.

"It is my favorite. [Museum curator Andrew Bolton] is incredible and his entire staff, and they are knowledgeable and inspired and wise and deeply curious about fabric, material, style, silhouettes — everything! But this particular exhibit I think is one of the greatest ever."

Bush Hager, who also got a sneak peek of the exhibit, called it "incredible," to which Parker wholeheartedly agreed.

"Can you believe it? Just the headpieces, the millinery work. I’ve never seen so many shades of yellow in my entire life. There are tiny little pieces that are like, cocktail aprons. It’s incredible."

Parker, who attended the event with her close friend Andy Cohen also brought a Benedetta Bruzziches Lumière bag and wore Briony Raymond and Marlo Laz jewelry (as well as pieces from N.Y.C. shops Beads of Paradise NYC and Gray & Davis), plus bedazzled tights and embellished pumps.

"Your own comfort, it becomes very low priority,” she told Vogue of her outfit. “The priority is trying to present properly. It’s your responsibility to take care of the elements, on behalf of the designer, the milliner, hairstylist, makeup artist. This year, I’ll be standing."

Before the event, Parker and her makeup artist Elaine Offers shared a glimpse of her getting red carpet ready.

After, Parker posted each piece neatly laid out, her bookshelf displaying designer books among other reads behind them. "Bewitched by Andrew Bolton and team’s glorious exhibit at the Costume Institute," she wrote.
