Schmigadoon! Being Adapted into Stage Musical, Set for 2025 Debut
Schmigadoon! is getting an unexpected encore. After being cancelled earlier this year, the Apple TV+ musical comedy will live again, this time as a stage production in Washington D.C.
As part of its 2024–2025 season, the The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is staging the world premiere of a new musical based on the short-lived series, featuring familiar tunes from the show (“Corn Puddin'”!) as well as brand-new songs written for this production.

For the uninitiated, here’s the official synopsis: “New York doctors Josh and Melissa go backpacking in a last-ditch attempt to save their failing relationship, but instead get lost in the woods and end up trapped in Schmigadoon, a magical town that’s a classic Golden Age musical come to life!” On the show, Josh was played by Keegan-Michael Key, while Melissa was played by Cecily Strong.
Directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, Schmigadoon! features a book, music and lyrics by Cinco Paul. The show will play from Jan. 31 to Feb. 9, 2025.
The original Schmigadoon! series boasted an ensemble cast packed with comedic forces and Broadway powerhouses, including Fred Armisen, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Martin Short, Aaron Tveit, Tituss Burguss and Patrick Page.
Casting for this new production will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, does a stage version of Schmigadoon! pique your interest? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
