See Olivia Colman in surreal true crime drama Landscapers
Sky has released the first look images of Olivia Colman in HBO's upcoming true crime drama Landscapers.
The Oscar winner plays real-life convicted murderer Susan Edwards in the four-part limited series inspired by real events that disturbed the nation. In 1998, Susan and her husband Christopher Edwards (played by Harry Potter's David Thewlis) murdered Susan's reclusive parents Patricia and William Wycherley in Wycherley's Mansfield home, before burying them in their back garden where they remained undiscovered for over a decade.
During their eventual trial in 2014, it emerged that Susan and Edward had siphoned off her parents' pensions and savings to spend on old school Hollywood memorabilia. There were also allegations of sexual abuse made by Susan against her father, which was acknowledged by the judge. The pair were sentenced to life in prison.
The drama - which is described by HBO as "blackly comic" - is based on extensive research, hours of interviews, and direct access to the accused, who have always claimed their innocence. It will be directed by Giri/Haji star and Flowers creator Will Sharpe, and written for the screen by Colman's writer and producer husband Ed Sinclair.
Landscapers will be produced by Sister productions, a female-led production company whose producing credits include Chernobyl and Gangs of London.
They said of the drama: "Pivoting through various perspectives from Susan and Chris, to the police officers and lawyers involved in the investigation, the drama also draws the audience into the surreal fantasy world that Susan and Christopher created by casting themselves as their Hollywood heroes in stories of their own invention.
"This is the story of a unique murder case involving four lives lived on the margins of society, that turns into an exhilarating and darkly funny exploration of love and fantasy: its power and its peril."
Landscapers will launch on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV later this year.
