An accident on the set of Eddie Murphy’s new film The Pickup left "several" people injured on Saturday, April 20.

A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios tells PEOPLE the incident took place during the taping of an action scene, injuring crew members. The Associated Press reports that no cast members, including Murphy, were present on set at the time of the accident.

“On April 20, an accident occurred on the set of The Pickup during a rehearsed 2nd unit action sequence,” the spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement. “Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result.”

The statement continued: “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”

The studio stated that there were safety measures in place when the injuries occurred.

“The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming,” the statement read. “All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.”

AP reported that the incident involved a truck hitting a car, with a source calling it "a freak accident" during a stunt that was not "complicated or dangerous." The AP source said there were bumps, bruises and broken bones as a result, with two members of the crew being hospitalized.

Murphy, 63, is starring in the upcoming film alongside Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer, Andrew Dice Clay, Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy and Marshawn Lynch.

The actor is also producing with Charisse Hewitt-Webster, The Blackening’s Tim Story and John Davis and John Fox from Davis Entertainment.

Murphy has another action movie in the works, too — Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F -- the fourth film in the series. He will be reprising his fan-favorite role as Axel Foley 40 years after the original.

“It was a hard one,” he told PEOPLE in November. “I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore.”

He added: “It was an action movie. So it was a rough one. But we got through it.”
