Shania Twain reveals 'twisted' cheating tale behind second marriage
It’s the stuff of country music: Woman discovers that her husband is cheating on her with a close friend, gets a divorce and then remarries — this time to the man who was once wed to her cheating spouse’s mistress.
Shania Twain has revealed that is the ‘twisted’ tale behind her divorce and remarriage, and the 54-year-old country star is opening up about it all in the February/March issue of AARP The Magazine.
“There were days I didn’t really care if tomorrow came,” Twain told the magazine of the depression she experienced over being blindsided, in 2008, by the affair first husband Robert John “Mutt” Lange had with her friend and personal assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
Marie-Anne’s then-husband, Frédéric, broke the news of the relationship to Shania shortly after her then-husband asked for a divorce after 14 years of marriage.
‘Beautiful twist’ behind second marriage
In a development that Twain now calls “beautifully twisted,” she and Thiébau went on to marry three years later in 2011 after divorcing their spouses.
She says their spouses’ infidelity brought them closer together.
“Survival is everything,” the singer told the magazine of her eventual but unexpected happy ending.
“I was in quicksand. I panicked, like everybody does, but I didn’t surrender. I found a way out.”
The country legend shares a son, Eja Lange, with her first husband.
She keeps her current husband largely out of the spotlight on her social media channels.
She last gave fans a peek at her loved-up life on Valentine’s day 2019, with a heartfelt post about her husband.
