Singaporean woman, 93, dies of COVID; 56th such fatality
SINGAPORE — A 93-year-old Singaporean woman died of COVID-19 infection on Wednesday (8 September), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
The woman developed symptoms on 2 September, and was conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases on 5 September, where she tested positive for the infection.
“She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia,” MOH said. She was the 56th person to have died from COVID-19 in the pandemic.
Her death comes after 18 such fatalities were reported by MOH last month.
Apart from the 56 fatalities to date, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
On Wednesday, MOH confirmed 349 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 69,582.
Of them, 347 cases are locally transmitted and two are imported.
